Cool Mac is coming into its own—we’re the only ones besides city departments to have been invited to have a booth at City Faire. The focus is on sustainability and community…right up our alley! The city’s intent is to make as small a footprint on Discovery Park as possible while showcasing city services. WOW (Western Oregon Waste) will be providing recyclable garbage containers, for example. They are encouraging everyone to ride bicycles or walk if possible. There will be a special Bicycle Circle for people to leave their bikes. This area is going to be patrolled, and someone will be checking riders in.

This really sounds like a fun place to be on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be live bands and strolling musicians, puppeteers, people on stilts. There will be a ceremony by City Council about 11:30. They want to honor the volunteers within the city and will be giving out some awards. After that they’ll start serving free hot dogs, a Pep Band from Portland will give a short concert, and then comes the free ice cream!

There will be tethered hot air balloon rides, police department’s helicopter will be there along with their new equipment, and the fire department will have their trucks displayed. Community Development (including Planning Department) have their own booth. McMinnville Water and Light are giving away bulbs and shower heads again. There will be interactive demonstrations and exhibits. The Police Department will have a bicycle safety course set up as well as having a dog training demonstration.

And the whole day is free!

Please come by our Cool Mac booth to see the latest literature and things going on with our organization…and give us more ideas for saving energy and becoming a sustainable community!
